What a commercial EICR covers
A commercial Electrical Installation Condition Report assesses the condition of the fixed wiring and distribution system at the time of inspection. The scope is agreed around the premises, installation, access and operational requirements.
Premises commonly inspected
- Offices, shops and customer-facing premises
- Workshops, warehouses and light industrial units
- Managed commercial property and communal areas
- Premises where insurers, landlords or internal safety systems require current electrical records
Inspection frequency should reflect risk
The Electricity at Work Regulations require electrical systems to be maintained so far as reasonably practicable to prevent danger, but they do not set one universal EICR interval for every workplace. The appropriate interval should reflect the installation, its use, maintenance history, environment and the recommendation on the previous report.
Planning around the business
Share opening hours, sensitive equipment, access restrictions and any areas that cannot be isolated easily. This helps define the inspection scope and minimise avoidable disruption.
